Monthly Report November 2024
Dear Citizens,
I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving as we are all now looking forward to the Christmas season. As the holidays get into full swing, I wish a happy and blessed Christmas and holiday season to all our citizens, our military, law enforcement and first responders. To my extended family at the NCSO, I want to again thank you for what you continue do every day to protect and serve the place we all call home. Just as we personally have all had our challenges, our state and nation have had their challenges as well. We look forward to a brighter tomorrow and New Year. My hope is that you will continue to count your blessings and feel grateful for all He has done and provided regardless of the many challenges we face.
This month we had the opportunity to honor the men and women of our United States military who have served. A Veteran whether active duty, retired, discharged or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to the 'United States of America', for an amount of up to and including their life." I hope as proud Americans, you continue to be thankful for our veterans and their service and sacrifice. We at the NCSO will always honor all those who have given so much.
The NCSO Honor Guard was honored and invited once again to post the colors for the Veterans Day program in Kerens. We felt it a privilege to do so as we are proud of all Veterans who served our country.
Congratulations to our Chief Deputy Morris Steward on his retirement from the NCSO. Chief Deputy Steward has proudly served the citizens of Navarro County in his various law enforcement capacities for over 35 years. He is known as a leader, friend, true professional and man of integrity. I believe many would agree, his knowledge, his experience and his presence will be sorely missed. Thank you Chief Deputy Steward for all you have done for me, for our community and for this agency. Best of luck on your well-earned retirement.
The Burn Ban in Navarro County has been lifted.
On November 12th, NCSO Deputies were dispatched to SW 2360 in reference to a stolen track loader. The owner of the machine had made a theft report through the Dallas County Sheriff's Office as well as had tracked the stolen unit to the location. He advised that his machine could be seen in an open field from the roadway and recovered his stolen machine from the location prior to our deputies arrival. He informed the deputies there were a few other machines next to his that may very well have been stolen as well.
Deputies arrived at the property, observed and recovered the following equipment:
•Kubota skid steer that was reported stolen in 2022. The machine was reported stolen through the Dallas Police Department.
•John Deere bulldozer that was reported stolen in 2023. The machine was reported stolen through the Wood County Sheriff's Office.
•The 2006 Caterpillar Track loader was recovered by the owner.
Total value of the recovered stolen equipment is $121,500.00
There were no suspects on or around the property at the time of discovery and the case remains under investigation.
We at the NCSO would like to congratulate both Kayla Hearne and Yakelin Ramirez on being promoted to Corporal in the Detention Division. We certainly wish both Corporal Hearne and Corporal Ramirez all the best with their new positions here at the NCSO.
Congratulations are in order as well for Deputy Addison Feemster on successfully completing the patrol FTO program and who will be serving as courthouse security and to Lieutenant Kevin Scott on his promotion to Captain of the NCSO Criminal Investigation Division.
Captain Scott has over 23 years of combined law enforcement experience. He previously worked in corrections and patrol for the Ellis County Sheriff's Office before joining the NCSO where he has worked in patrol and criminal investigations.
I want to congratulate Captain Clint Andrews on his promotion to Chief Deputy of the NCSO. Chief Deputy Andrews has over 22 years experience at the NCSO from working in corrections, patrol, narcotics and criminal investigations. Chief Deputy Andrews also served as Assistant Commander of the NCSO Tactical Team. I hope you will join us in wishing him all the best in his new position as Chief Deputy of the NCSO.
Thanksgiving has a meaning for all to understand and this Thanksgiving we prepared a holiday style meal for the inmates at the Navarro County Justice Center. Turkey, dressing, giblet gravy, cranberry sauce, green beans, scalloped potatoes, iced spice cake, and bread. Although it's not the same as a meal prepared by and being home with family, the inmates were appreciative that they were provided a traditional meal for Thanksgiving.
On Thanksgiving Day the NCSO responded with numerous units to the scene of an illegal cockfight in the 4800 block of NW 4210. Several suspects were detained at the location. Although the investigation continues, numerous citations were issued at the scene.
The Sheriff's Office had approximately 2,702 calls for service in November and our dispatch received 1,737 calls for assistance to 9-1-1. There were approximately 185 persons arrested and booked into the Navarro County Justice Center and the average daily jail population was 228 inmates. Nine inmates were transferred to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and one inmate was transferred to State Jail and SAFP Units to serve their sentences. In November, we estrayed one bull, one cow and one pony and hauled them to the county farm.
We are accepting applications for all divisions and currently have vacancies in detention, patrol, and the criminal investigation division. Remember the hiring age for dispatch and detention has been lowered to 18 but with all other enforcement positions, you must be 21 or older to apply. As in the past, applications will continue to be taken for any vacancy until the position is filled.
